From Showtimes website: The peaceful life of average working man, John, is shattered by the brutal murder of his pregnant wife. Disillusioned by the police’s slow response, John takes to the streets as a sword-wielding vigilante hell bent on cleaning up New York City crime and corruption. But as his quest for justice gains notoriety, a mysterious villain known only as the Plutonium Killer sets his sights on the New York ninja. This over-the-top cult classic was recently restored thirty-five years after being abandoned during production.
The Original Motion Picture to New York Ninja, by Voyag3r, was recorded, mixed and mastered by Steve Greene here at the Battle Chamber and was released on Digital, CD, Cassette and Vinyl by Mondo/Deathwaltz. The film was completed and released by Vinegar Syndrome and edited and re-directed by Kurtis Spieler.
Here is what the New York Times had to say about New York Ninja: The 1984 kung fu film was shot, but it wasn’t completed. Now, with a new director and newly recorded dialogue, the film sees the light of day.
The names of most of the original cast and crew are lost to time, and Spieler said Vinegar Syndrome tried to find Liu but wasn’t able to. This gave Spieler the chance to start fresh with the audio, commissioning a synth-heavy retro score by the Detroit band Voyag3r and fielding a murderer’s row of genre-film stalwarts to dub the actors.

Originally directed by and starring martial arts actor John Liu (The Secret Rivals, Invincible Armor) in his only American production, New York Ninja was filmed entirely on 35mm in 1984, but the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials being lost over time. 35 years later, Vinegar Syndrome acquired the original unedited camera negative and painstakingly constructed and completed the film. Steve Greene (Detroit-based multi-instrumentalist/producer/film composer and keyboardist in the band Voyag3r) has a new 2-song release to close out the year. Noir, City Streets and Macabre is minimal, dark, twisted and sonically frames a dystopian setting where likely no one survives.
These tracks were recorded back in 2017 for 2 different compilation albums, celebrating the Halloween season. Steve Greene has freshly remastered these tracks for this release, through BandCamp.

Our EP is inspired by the Tiki Motel most famous as a key location as the protagonists hideout in ‘The Terminator’. We were inspired by the idea of the last days before the internet and the stories of people finding refuge or pausing at a sun bleached motel in a forgotten corner of 1980s Los Angeles. ‘555 Tiki Motel’ is our most mature album yet with three brooding heartfelt songs and two swampy b-side-tracks. Originally appearing on the Fright Night Club vol. 12 Halloween Compilation, Subliminal Dark Waves now has a worldwide release on all digital download and streaming service platforms.
